House Bill 845
Providing Parents with Information on the Flu Vaccine
Effective Date: July 1, 2012
This bill requires that all early care and education programs provide the parents and guardians of its enrolled children with educational information on the flu vaccine by September 1 of each year. However, failure to provide the information does not subject the program to any civil or criminal liability, nor is the program required to pay for the immunization.
The information provided should include, but is not limited to:
- The causes and symptoms of the flu and how it spreads;
- The risks associated with the flu;
- The availability, effectiveness, and known contradictions of the flu vaccine; and
- Related recommendations issued by the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, including the recommended ages at which children should receive the vaccine.
